Hiroshi “Mickey” Mikitani was educated at Hitotsubashi University in Tokyo, began his career in investment banking, and earned his MBA at Harvard Business School. In 1997 he founded Rakuten with the mission of contributing to society by creating value through innovation and entrepreneurship. Rakuten Group now provides more than 70 services, spanning e-commerce, fintech, digital content and communications, to more than 1.2 billion global members. Mikitani has served as the Chairman of the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra since 2011. He is also the Representative Director of the Japan Association of New Economy (JANE), which was founded in June 2012.
